Follow Friday

Q. If you could change the ending of any book (or series), which book would you choose? Why and to what?

I would absolutely change the ending to The Hunger Games. I was disappointed that Katniss basically retired into obsolescence living back in the district with Peeta and raising children. In some ways, I got it, but overall, it just left me wanting more for her. She'd been through so much and inspired so many that it was difficult to accept such a quiet ending to the tale. It made me feel that her spirit really had been broken.

Given the choice, I would have liked to see her take on a greater role in reshaping the Capitol. Katniss wasn't  quiter and returning to District 12 smacked of retreat. I also would have kept Gale in her life (as a friend) despite the obvious changes that severed their friendship. While Peeta was absolutely the right companion to balance her, Gale would have kept the spark alive!

    Hopping through. I was happy that K ended up with P, but I was annoyed that her attitude about it was like she was settling, or choosing the easy route. I wanted more passion and happiness.

    Hmm... the Hunger Games eh? I've read some pretty good reviews on it but now your answer has me curious about the ending. Darn! Another series to add to the list...

    I've read the first book not the other two I should really get on that. Now it just sounds like maybe I should stay with just the first book.

    I haven't read the Hunger Games series, but from what you said, I would probably be annoyed with the ending as well.

    Hey JJ! I love your answer. It was a lot more eloquent than mine blog rant about how much I hated the ending. I still love the books to death but I'll just pretend the ending never happened.

    I think this week's top picks are Breaking Dawn, VA, Delirium, Forbidden, Forever, and Hunger Games! =) And all these series are my top favorites!!! except for VA which I haven't read yet, but already bought 2 weeks ago =)

    Oh, yes. MJ was all wrong. Our super-strong Katniss broke in half and never recovered. And even us Peta fans weren't happy with the ending--not enough love, not enough awesomeness, just a long, slow defeat. Sad day.
